The ATAS-25 is a manually-tuned portable antenna system ideal for temporary field operations with the FT-100D, FT-817, FT-897, and FT-857 transceivers. Capable of operating on the Amateur bands between 7 MHz and 450 MHz,the bands are covered by manual changing the supplied elements and hand adjusting the coils.
The ATAS-25 is designed for mounting on a standard 1/4" camera tripod stud (tripod not supplied), and includes an innovative fine-tuning system allowing precise SWR adjustment in the field. The antenna has an SO-239 (PO) antenna connection, ready to accept a PL-259 plug.
Maximum height is 7.2 feet (2.2m) 2.05 lbs. (930g).
Easy to deploy - good performance
Despite comments to the contrary, you don't need an analyzer to tune and use this antenna. It breaks down neatly and packs easily. When deploying keep it close to the ground (a cheap, flexy tripod works great) and toss out all of the counterpoise you have. It'll easily tune every band 80 through 10 (I haven't used it above that). A great partner for the FT817/818.
Ok for higher bands
This is the antenna of choice for the FT-897D radio as it covers the repeater bands as well. For HF it is a bit short but for working DX on 20m and up it will allow you to make contacts. I can work Europe no problem running 20-50 watts on the FT-891 when band is open. This is an easy set up for weekend camping and deploy the counterpoise off the ground a few inches and go make contacts. It may not work as well on 80m and 40m as its short but you can check into regional nets when the band is good and the NCS has a proper antenna.
