An Excellent Field Ops Antenna
If you run a Yaesu 857/897/891/817/818 or a Icom 7000 or 706 then this is the antenna for Wasaga Beach and Field operation at the local Parks on the Air. No tuner required and just adjust the tap point and make sure you have an ELEVATED counterpoise about 12 inches off the ground and you are working stations. The telescopic whip is a little flimsy so be careful when using it and you will be fine. I made 3 radials using rotator cable and cut to 1/4 wave for each band with alligator clips on one end. Thus a 5 conductor cable can do 40m to 10m. You can be on the air in 5 minutes. An 897D with its internal battery back and this antenna would allow you to make a ton of contacts anywhere. I store the antenna in a tent pole bag with the radials.
